Lima Senior Fends Off Whitmer

On Friday evening Whitmer traveled to Lima Senior for a Three Rivers Athletic Conference showdown. While Lima Senior would take control of the game early, and lead throughout the game, it would not be without multiple runs, and strong fight from Whitmer. Lima Senior would fend off Whitmer for a 72-62 victory, and here is who stood out:

2022 PG Khalil Luster (Lima Senior) – You know what you are going to get from Luster every time he takes the floor, a compliment to this scrappy, tough, competitor. He leads both with his voice, and in his play, picking teammates up, and doing the things necessary for success. Plays under control, manages tempo, sees the floor at a high level, and makes good decisions with the basketball. Shot it really well from the outside, while being assertive penetrating the paint, and creating good looks for others. Was great defensively, with his lateral quickness, burst, energy, and strong understanding of things on that end of the floor. Led all scorers with 20 points, really playing some good basketball right now.

2022 PG Maurice Purley (Whitmer) – Delivered a nice outing for his team in this one, finishing with 17 points. Similar to the aforementioned Luster in stature, Purley was solid on both ends of the floor, and was a big reason Whitmer kept this one close. Brought consistent effort and energy, was efficient, and made good decisions with the ball in his hands. Plays well with pace, and pushes the ball up the floor with good vision. Shot it at a high clip from the outside. Has some good basketball ahead of him.

2022 SG Jareon Mayo (Lima Senior) – One of the most underrated talents in NW Ohio in this humble opinion, Mayo can just about do it all offensively, and has good size from the guard position to go with it at 6’2″. Shot it really well from three in this one, making it look effortless when he has his feet set. Can score off the bounce, and makes good cuts to the rim. Capable of being a defensive asset on the wing with his length, and athleticism. Scholarship worthy prospect in the future who is only going to get better.

2021 SG Jordan Phenix (Whitmer) – Led his team with a ‘quiet’ 19 points in the loss, Phenix plays with great composure and efficiency. Can knock down shots from the outside, and can score it around the rim as well. Lets his game do the talking for him, doesn’t get too high or too low. Steadying presence for his team, and impressed in this one.

Others who stood out: Tommy Colbert (Whitmer), Anthony Mosley (Lima Senior).
