On Friday night one-loss Perrysburg traveled to the campus of Anthony Wayne for a showdown in the NLL that promised to be a good one. While the contest was back and forth throughout the first half, Perrysburg would pull away in the second half and coast to a 64-43 road win. Here is who stood out:
2020 G Zach Miller (Perrysburg) – Doesn’t necessarily ‘wow’ you in any particular area, but was just solid all around on this night. Handled the ball well, was poised and composed no matter what the situation. Was strong getting to the rim and finishing, while scoring in the mid-range as well on his way to an 18 point outing. Sees the floor, sets up the offense and makes sure his team gets good shots. Capable of being a pesk defensively, doesn’t back down, not afraid to be physical and contest at the rim.
2020 G Zachary Szul (Anthony Wayne) – Wasn’t one of his better or more high-scoring nights of the season to date, but still showed why he is one of the top available seniors in the area. Ran good offense, and got to his spots as he wanted. Thrives in the mid-range and found his way there on numerous occasions. Made good decisions with the basketball, created shots for teammates off the drive and kick, and with quick swings of the ball. Sound defensively, can really put pressure on the ball on that end of the floor when he wants to.
2020 C/PF Jackson Sizemore (Perrysburg) – Would like to see him be more physical, but found his way around the rim for easy ones and converted those opportunities. Ran the floor well and was rewarded for doing so on multiple occasions. Was solid in the high-post, setting screens and working in the flow of the offense. Can protect the rim, contest shots, and use his length to his advantage. Finished with 14 points on the night.
Others who stood out: Drew Paule (Perrysburg), Bobby Miller (Anthony Wayne), Drew Sims (Perrysburg), Evan Ruhe (Anthony Wayne).
