On Tuesday night, an undefeated Versailles squad traveled north to Lima Central Catholic for an anticipated game of two solid programs. After a back and forth battle throughout, Lima Central Catholic would fall at home to Versailles by a final of 50-59. Here is who stood out in this one:
2020 PG Michael Stammen (Versailles) – Was the best in the gym on Tuesday night. Is so good reading screens, both with the ball in his hands and coming off of them ready to shoot. Attacked the rim in a relentless manner in this one, scoring throughout contact and not shying away from contact. Delivered 6 assists on the night to go with his 22 points, as he carved up the defense in some fashion on what felt like every trip down the floor. Caused deflections and was an anchor on defense, communicates at a high level, leads his team in more ways than one. The opponent had no answers for him on this night. Would make a high quality point guard for a small college or university at the next level.
2020 PG Biggz Johnson (Lima Central Catholic) – Exchanged numerous buckets with the aforementioned Stammen in an impressive offensive performance. Shot it really well from deep, got to the rim and finished with efficiency. Moved the ball, and fed teammates with some pretty passes throughout the game. Was exceptional on defense, causing turnovers and wreaking havoc. Kept his team in the game at various points during the night when it looked like the game could get away from them. Solid showing from the senior in the loss.
Others who stood out: Shaun Thomas (Lima Central Catholic), Ryan Martin (Versailles).
