On Saturday evening Toledo Christian brought their 5-1 record to Bowsher High School for an out-of-conference matchup in a place that is always tough to play. The Eagles road some solid team defense, quality offense, and an overall sound effort to an eventual 58-43 win. Here is who stood out in the contest:
2021 G Cole McWhinnie (Toledo Christian) – Delivered a special 23 point and 5 assist outing for his team, being responsible for more than 50% of their offense on the night. Plays so smart, making the right play, passing up good looks for better ones, finding teammates with creativity, and pushing the ball up the floor. Lightning quick release from the perimeter where he is one of the best scorers you will find, getting more comfortable around the rim, and solid in the mid-range. Responsible for numerous deflections on the defensive end, not afraid to battle for rebounds. Routinely consistent, controlled. Brings a quiet swagger, confidence, and leadership. Beginning to hear from more and more programs at the college level.
2020 G Lamar Skipper (Bowsher) – Instant offense when he enters a game. Can score it from all around, becoming more efficient on that side of the ball. Knocked down shots at a high clip, finished around the rim. Capable on-ball defender, really competes, not afraid to get after it. Plays with passion and an edge.
2021 G/F Trevor Wensink (Toledo Christian) – Had a nice night on Saturday. Brings good size, deceptively nimble, can really get up and down. Can create offense off the bounce, really shoots it well off the catch. Fights for rebounds, uses his size to his advantage on defense. Does a nice job of letting the game come to him, stays composed, and gets his within the flow of things. Very much a high-quality ‘glue guy.’
2020 G Javonte Hayward (Bowsher) – The transfer over from Rogers High School provided his team with a lift throughout the course of the game. Very quick and shifty, scrappy, and competitive. Attacked the paint off the dribble and put pressure on the defense, scored it well in that area. Capable scorer from deep. Will defend and take his matchup personal. Solid night from him even in the loss.
2020 G Jared Lindke (Toledo Christian) – Provides a tough physical presence from the guard position. Really can put up points in bunches when he gets going, good stroke from deep, can score around the rim and take on contact. Sound defensively, solid lateral quickness. Moves the ball, makes good decisions with the ball in his hands. Will play a big part in how far his team can go come tournament time.
