On Friday night Lima Senior made the trip north to the Titan Dome on the campus of Toledo St. Johns for a highly anticipated showdown in the TRAC. Lima Senior, who entered the game holding a spot in the state rankings, won the first game between the two. This one would be of a different outcome.
From the tip of this game it was St. Johns that set the tone on both ends of the floor, with sophomore guard Brady Lichtenberg leading the charge early with his steady play, that would continue throughout this contest. Junior guard Caleb Smith would get involved as well for St. Johns to make his presence felt, as Lima Senior struggled to settle in early. St. Johns would lead 16-10 after the 1st quarter.
The second quarter would be played at a more methodical pace, as both teams resorted to half court basketball. Junior guard Josiah Fulcher would get involved for Lima Senior, with Jamir Simpson complementing his efforts, however, St. Johns would hold a 29-16 advantage at the half.
To begin the second half St. Johns would come out efficient and effective, particularly on the offensive end as the aforementioned Smith and Lichtenberg knocked down shots from all over the floor. Lima Senior struggled to get clean looks throughout the night, and this quarter would be no exception. St. Johns would increase their lead to 45-27 after the 3rd.
Lima Senior would make a push in the final quarter of play, picking up St. Johns with full court pressure on the defensive end, that would lead to transition opportunities on the offensive end. Fulcher, Simpson, and fellow junior Jadakis Mack would each make some tough plays and physical finishes in the paint for Lima Senior. However, this night belonged to St. Johns. Senior guard Payton Moyer would settle things down for the Titans offensively and earn his way to the foul line on numerous occasions. His efforts, along with Lichtenberg’s heady play, and Smith’s efficiency would ultimately be too much for Lima Senior.
Toledo St. Johns would defeat Lima Senior by a final score of 59-47. Caleb Smith and Brady Lichtenberg would lead St. Johns with 16 points each, while Josiah Fulcher would finish with 10 points for Lima Senior.
