On Friday night Marion Local traveled to Parkway for a road contest in the MAC. While the game had some intrigue heading into it, the story in this one from start to finish would be Marion Local and senior standout Nate Bruns.
From the jump Marion Local’s Nate Bruns’ presence was felt and it would remain that way until he checked out early in the final quarter. He opened this one with a flurry of buckets, assists, and steals, as Marion Local would go on a quick 10-2 run, eventually leading Parkway 15-7 after the 1st.
Marion Local’s experience, and the play of Bruns would see them continue to widen their margin over Parkway, leading 29-14 at the halftime break.
The theme for this one would remain the same to begin the second half, as Bruns and the visiting Flyers would explode offensively putting this one all but out of reach. Parkway sophomore guard Dylan Hughes would put together some tough finishes and scrappy plays periodically throughout this one, but that would be it for the home team. Marion Local led Parkway 49-24 after the 3rd quarter. Nate Bruns would have 24 points to lead the Flyers, tying the scoring output of the entire Panthers team.
With the game out of reach and decided heading into the final period, the starters on either side spent much of the remaining time on the bench, and Marion Local would go on to defeat Parkway by a final score of 68-38.
Nate Bruns would lead Marion Local with 24 points, as the future University of Findlay Oiler was nothing short of dominant on this night. Dylan Hughes would lead Parkway with 12 points in the loss.
