On Tuesday night the annual City League Semifinals took place at Waite High School in Toledo.
In the first game the #1 seed Start squared off with the #4 seed Woodward. Start was in control of the game from tip to finish, coasting rather easily to a 60-42 victory. Start got a balanced effort with contributions across the board from guys like Alex Perry, Devin Williams, and Tyrik Barbine. Woodward was led by CJ Robinson with 22 points in the loss.
In the second game, the #2 seed Rogers was set to take on the #3 seed Bowsher in what has become quite a rivalry and battle over the past few years. Bowsher raced out to a fast start thanks to senior Ajai Washington, but Rogers would battle back led by sophomore Caleb Smith and company. Bowsher would come back and make this an entertaining game, but Rogers would get some timely buckets and free throws down the stretch to hold on by a final score of 70-68. Caleb Smith led Rogers with 27 points.
The championship game between Rogers and Start took place Thursday night, once again at Waite High School. Start would jump out to a good advantage and maintain control for most of the game, however Rogers would make a run led by Christian Smith. They would eventually take a two point lead with seconds remaining, but a three point attempt for Start would fall at the buzzer, and Start would defeat Rogers by a final of 49-48 to capture the City League title.
